Rwanda Prepares for 2025 UCI World Championships: Calls on Private Sector for Support
The Ministry of Trade and Industry (MINICOM) has urged the private sector to enhance service delivery in anticipation of Rwanda hosting the 2025 UCI World Championships from September 21 to 28, 2025.
This international cycling event is expected to attract thousands of participants and visitors to Rwanda. MINICOM emphasized that the race provides an excellent opportunity to boost business and deliver high-quality services to both locals and international guests attending or watching the event.
With certain roads scheduled to be reserved for race events, the ministry advised private operators to stock ample supplies of goods to avoid disruptions during road closures. For essential transportation during this period, MINICOM recommends that private companies plan to operate mainly at night, allowing trucks to move during off-peak hours when roads are less congested.
The private sector’s participation is deemed crucial for the success of the event. MINICOM highlighted that their cooperation will help ensure the smooth conduct of the race and related activities.
Expected Attendees and Media Coverage
During the eight-day event, over 15,000 visitors are expected to flock to Rwanda, along with approximately 5,000 officials, commissaires, and race monitors. A significant international press presence will also be in place, with around 700 journalists from 124 countries covering the races.
Television broadcasters will include nearly 80 channels, reaching more than 300 million cycling fans worldwide. Social media engagement is also projected to surpass seven million viewers, while over 1.5 million people are expected to follow the event through the UCI website.
Rwanda is gearing up to host this prestigious event with robust support from both the government and private sector to ensure a successful and memorable experience for participants and global audiences alike.
