Rwanda Celebrates Improved Pass Rates in 2024/2025 National Secondary School Examinations
The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) announced that a total of 106,418 students registered to sit for the state secondary school leaving examinations in the 2024/2025 academic year. Out of these, 106,078 students sat the exams, and 94,409 students passed, representing an overall pass rate of 89.1%. The pass rate for boys was reported at 93.5%, while for girls, it was 85.5%.
This announcement was reiterated on September 1, 2025, when MINEDUC officially released the results for the 2024/2025 academic year.
MINEDUC reported that this year’s pass rate has increased significantly compared to the previous academic year 2023/2024, which saw a pass rate of 78%.
Minister of Education Joseph Nsengimana praised the results, attributing the improvement to the enthusiasm of students and the dedicated efforts of educators through the ongoing literacy program. He stated, “The students did well, and we are pleased with the results.”
Data from MINEDUC shows notable improvements in student scores this year. The number of students scoring between 50-60 increased from 14,438 last year to 16,590 this year. Students scoring between 60-70 rose from 12,624 to 17,933, while those scoring between 70-80 increased from 8,066 to 12,234. Additionally, students with scores between 80-90 doubled from 2,771 to 4,668, and those in the 90-100 range rose from 117 last year to 242 this year.
In terms of district performance, Kayonza District led with a success rate of 96.9%, followed closely by Kirehe at 95%. Conversely, Kamonyi and Nyarugenge districts lagged behind, with success rates of 85% and 87.1%, respectively.
