Somalia Participates in First-Ever Global Wildlife Conservation Summit in India

New Delhi, India – June 18, 2025 — Somalia has officially taken part in the inaugural summit of the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA), held in New Delhi, India.
Hon. Hussein Ali Haji, the Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Change is r representing Somalia country.
The conference, spearheaded by the Government of India, marked the founding of a new global alliance dedicated to the protection and preservation of big wild cats, such as tigers, leopards, lions, and other endangered species facing the threat of extinction.
Mr. Hussein Ali Haji emphasized the importance of conserving wildlife in Somalia and across the Horn of Africa. He highlighted that strong international cooperation is key to protecting biodiversity and strengthening environmental initiatives in regions heavily impacted by climate change.
Speaking at the summit, the Minister reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to playing an active role in environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and wildlife conservation.
During the event, Minister Hussein held a bilateral meeting with India’s Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change.
The two ministers discussed strengthening collaboration between their countries, including technical training and joint environmental operations.
Somalia is one of the founding member states of the newly formed alliance, underscoring its active role in global efforts to safeguard the environment and endangered wildlife.
