European Union and Rwanda Sign Landmark Partnership to Boost Health and Economic Inclusion

Brussels, October 9, 2025 — Today, a significant milestone was achieved as the European Commission and Rwanda formalized a comprehensive partnership aimed at strengthening health systems and promoting economic inclusion for refugees. The signature ceremony, held in Brussels, marked the inauguration of the Global Gateway package, a strategic initiative designed to foster sustainable development and regional cooperation.
The agreement was signed jointly by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Rwandan President Paul Kagame. The package allocates substantial investments in healthcare infrastructure, medical innovation, and refugee integration programs, underscoring the EU’s commitment to global solidarity and development.
In a separate but related event, key stakeholders gathered to endorse Rwanda’s ambition to become a regional hub for vaccine manufacturing and medical innovation. The agreement was signed by the European Investment Bank President and the CEO of BioNTech , in the presence of both presidents.
The signing ceremony marks a pivotal step toward greater international cooperation, with many anticipating that these initiatives will significantly impact health outcomes and economic development across Africa and beyond.
