By DUSABEMUNGU Ange de la Victoire

Kigali-Rwanda: 10th October, 2025: Inyange Industries marked a significant milestone today by officially launching its Instant Milk Powder tailored for the retail market. The new product, which is proudly produced in Rwanda, aims to address key challenges within the local milk value chain, including seasonality and market access for farmers, while offering convenience to consumers.

The launch event was framed as the “continuation of a story that started many years ago” as stakeholders worked together to find solutions in the milk value chain.

MD Highlights Quality and Retail Focus

James Kagaba, Managing Director of Inyange Industries and the Inyange milk powder plant, expressed pride in the new offering, noting that this moment answered a question previously posed to the company.

“Today It is another special day in Inyange Industries,” Kagaba stated. He referenced the previous launch of industrial milk powder packed in 25-kilo bags, recalling, “We are being asked the question. When do we serve everyone on a retail market and today we are happy and Happy and privileged to have each of you to celebrate with us Our new product which is called Instant milk powder which is dedicated and Produced with the highest equality of consideration“.

Kagaba also encouraged private sector partners, reminding them that Inyange still offers industrial powder for use as an ingredient in other products, suggesting its use in the production of ice cream, coffee creamers, cheese, and chocolate, thereby reducing imports.

The Instant Whole Milk Powder itself is real cow’s milk in powder form, designed to deliver the same creamy taste and nutrition of fresh milk, with the added benefits of long storage and quick preparation. It is a spray-dried whole milk powder containing soya lecithin for instant solubility.

Bankers Connect Product to National Vision

Financial partners, including NCBA Bank in Rwanda, were present to celebrate the transition of the milk powder project from an idea to a reality. Maurice Toroitich, MD of NCBA Bank in Rwanda, emphasized the deep-rooted vision behind the plant, which was founded to bring stability and predictability for milk farmers.

Toroitich acknowledged that the current launch is a crucial step in resolving the historical issue where “During the rain season, there’s plenty of milk, but during dry season, we actually don’t have milk”. He celebrated the product as a “great milestone”.

He also framed the launch as part of the country’s journey of “transitioning from imports to made in Rwanda”. Toroitich issued a strong encouragement for local consumption and pride, stating: “I would say I have nothing against Nestle, but I hope I don’t see a lot of NIDO around, now that we have Inyange Milk Powder with us“. He concluded by noting that the launch is “really actioning a great vision, that our great leader Paul Kagame envisions for Rwanda”.

Government Pledges Support for Local Sustainability

The Ministry of Trade and Industry affirmed its commitment to Inyange Industries. Alexis Kabayiza, the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA) for the Ministry, highlighted the importance of the product for both the market and the farmers.

Moving this instant new product on the domestic market means a lot for us,” Kabayiza remarked. He stressed the security this provides to local producers: “when we talk about this value chain, it means that this is a guarantee to our farmers“.

Kabayiza called upon all stakeholders and consumers to cooperate in ensuring the success of the domestic product, noting that the capacity of the industry is key to sustaining the market. He urged the public to take advantage of this opportunity and concluded with a powerful message of national pride: “we should be proud to sustain our own products, locally“.

The Instant Whole Milk Powder is currently available in 500g and 1kg pouches for everyday home use, with a 25kg bag option available for bulk and business needs.
