By TOP AFRICA NEWS Reporter

From October 9 to 15, Rwanda is actively participating in the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2025 in Abu Dhabi, with Ambassador John Mirenge leading the country’s delegation.

The Congress, which began yesterday, brings together over 10,000 leaders, scientists, Indigenous representatives, and policymakers from more than 160 countries to focus on urgent global issues such as biodiversity loss and climate change.

Supporting the delegation is the IUCN Rwanda Team, led by Ms. Kaori Yasuda.

Rwanda is leveraging this platform to share its success stories in nature conservation and explore new avenues for international collaboration.

The event was inaugurated by Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and features discussions on resilient conservation, equity, and the transition to nature-positive societies. A historic vote on fossil fuels as a threat to nature is also taking place, with Rwanda among the countries presenting initiatives aligned with the UN’s 30×30 conservation target.

Rwanda’s active engagement at the Congress underscores its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability and positions the country as a regional leader in biodiversity and climate resilience.

The Congress offers Rwanda a vital opportunity to strengthen global conservation partnerships and showcase its remarkable progress in environmental initiatives.
