Rwanda Demonstrates Commitment to Climate Action at Belém Climate Summit
Belém, Brazil — Rwanda’s active participation at the ongoing Belém Climate Summit underscores the country’s dedication to integrating environmental sustainability into its national development agenda. The summit, held on November 6 and 7 at Parque da Cidade, brings together global leaders, ministers, and representatives of international organizations to forge solutions against the pressing impacts of climate change ahead of COP30.

In a significant highlight, Rwanda’s Minister of Environment, Dr. Bernadette Arakwiye and Faustin Munyazikwiye, the Deputy Director General of the Rwanda Environment Management Authority alongside other delegation member, engaged in high-level discussions with Bo Li, Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The talks centered on Rwanda’s ambitious climate targets and the country’s comprehensive efforts to prioritize environmental health within its development strategies. Minister Arakwiye emphasized Rwanda’s commitment to sustainable growth and resilience, aligning national policies with global climate goals.

On a Previous Day, Minister Arakwiye and Ambassador Lawrence Manzi, Rwanda’s envoy to Brazil, joined world leaders and diplomats at the summit to foster international dialogue and accelerate climate action. Their participation reflects Rwanda’s proactive stance in global climate diplomacy, advocating for stronger commitments and innovative financing mechanisms to support climate adaptation and mitigation initiatives.

The summit, convened by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, serves as a critical platform to mobilize political will and catalyze concrete actions. It features thematic sessions focused on forests and oceans, energy transition, and the future of the Paris Agreement. These discussions are particularly timely as they prepare the agenda for COP30, set to take place from November 10 to 21 in Belém.
Ambassador Mauricio Lyrio, Secretary for Climate, Energy, and the Environment at Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the summit’s role in elevating climate issues on the global stage. “This gathering is a decisive moment to generate political momentum and reaffirm collective commitments to combat climate change,” he stated.

Brazil’s efforts to intensify climate diplomacy, showcased through hosting the summit and upcoming COP30, aim to reinforce international cooperation and accountability.
