Top Africa News reporter shines in environmental reporting competition

Mr Emmanuel Kanamugire, a reporter with TOP AFRICA NEWS, won the competition for his investigative reporting on environmental issues. Speaking on behalf of Kigali Attorneys, during a handover ceremony on 04 September 2025, Me Louis Gitinywa explained that, as the world faces the challenges of global warming, they chose to provide training to Rwandan journalists on climate change in order to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to inform both the public and policymakers about the specific challenges Rwanda is experiencing.

“We have observed that in many districts across the country, some mining companies fail to comply with environmental protection laws. As lawyers, we handle such cases in court, but journalists have the ability to follow them up in the field by engaging with residents and local leaders. A journalist who is well trained and knowledgeable about climate change and global warming can play a vital role by reporting on these issues, raising public awareness, and showing ways to address them,” Gitinywa said.

“I am honored to receive this prize as the top winner, thanks to my report on the environmental impacts of mining, particularly on the Nyabarongo River. This recognition motivates me to continue producing more stories of this kind,” said Emmanuel Kanamugire.

Kigali Attorney has been providing legal services in different areas including Constitutional and Human Rights Law, Administrative and Labour Consultancy, Business Regulatory and Advisory, and banking and financial services.
