Rwanda Welcomes the World: A Memorable Night Ahead UCI Road World Championships Conclusion
Kigali, Rwanda – September 27, 2025 – Under the dazzling lights of the Kigali Convention Centre, an unforgettable evening unfolded as international dignitaries, cycling enthusiasts, and world leaders gathered for the UCI Gala Dinner. The event celebrated the success of the UCI Road World Championships, which marked a historic moment for Rwanda and the African continent in the world of cycling.

President Paul Kagame warmly welcomed guests, including His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco and UCI President David Lappartient. “To my friend, Prince Albert II of Monaco, welcome to Kigali. Your unwavering support elevates the sport of cycling and Africa’s future in this thrilling sport,” President Kagame remarked.
“Africa shares a story of resilience and determination, much like our young athletes who inspire by pursuing their dreams with vigour and dedication,” Kagame continued, emphasizing Rwanda’s commitment to nurturing talent and creating opportunities across the continent. “You all have a home in Rwanda, and we always welcome you back with open arms,” he graciously concluded.

President David Lappartient paid tribute to Rwanda’s hospitality and vibrant culture. “This week in Kigali has exceeded all expectations, captivating us with its stunning landscapes, warm-hearted people, and dynamic energy,” he enthused. Reflecting on the historic occasion, Lappartient noted, “From the under-23 women’s races to hosting the event on African soil for the first time, this championship has been monumental.”
Lappartient expressed gratitude to President Kagame for his pivotal role and support, presenting him with a special framed Wimbleton jersey and the prestigious UCI Order—a symbol of outstanding contributions to cycling. “We leave Rwanda with cherished memories that will last a lifetime,” he concluded, celebrating the successful event alongside volunteers and the cycling community that united to make it possible.
